Slip On Flanges Manufacturer

Slip-On Flanges Manufacturer, Supplier & Exporter – ASME B16.5 Slip-On Flanges (SORF, SOFF) with RF, FF & RTJ Facing, Dimensions, Weight & Pressure Class 150 to 2500

Slip-on flanges are one of the most widely used flange types in piping systems due to their ease of installation, cost efficiency, and strong alignment capabilities. Designed to slide over the pipe and then welded both internally and externally, these flanges provide enhanced strength and reduced leakage risk compared to single-weld configurations. Manufactured in accordance with ASME B16.5 and ANSI B16.47 standards, slip-on flanges are commonly used in low to medium pressure applications across oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, and water treatment industries.

The structure of a slip-on flange allows for precise pipe positioning before welding, making it highly preferred in large-diameter piping systems where alignment is critical. Variations such as SORF (Slip-On Raised Face) and SOFF (Slip-On Flat Face) are selected based on gasket seating requirements and pressure class, while RTJ slip-on flanges are used in high-pressure and high-temperature environments requiring metal-to-metal sealing. Raised face configurations remain the most commonly used due to their superior sealing performance under fluctuating pressure conditions.

Available in a wide range of pressure ratings including Class 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500, and 2500, slip-on flanges are manufactured in sizes ranging from ½” to 48” and above, depending on project requirements. These flanges are extensively produced in materials such as Carbon Steel (ASTM A105), Stainless Steel (ASTM A182 F304/304L/316/316L), Alloy Steel (F11, F22), Duplex & Super Duplex (UNS S31803, S32205, S32750, S32760), and high-performance alloys like Inconel, Monel, Hastelloy, and Alloy 20, ensuring compatibility with aggressive environments and corrosive media.

In global markets such as the USA, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman, slip-on flanges are in high demand for pipeline infrastructure, refineries, offshore platforms, and EPC projects. Their cost advantage compared to weld neck flanges, combined with ease of fabrication and installation, makes them a preferred choice for contractors and project engineers handling bulk piping requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions – Slip On Flanges

How are slip-on flanges installed?

Slip-on flanges are installed by sliding the flange over the pipe to the required position, usually leaving a slight gap from the pipe end to ensure proper weld penetration. The flange is then carefully aligned and tack welded to maintain positioning. Final installation involves fillet welding on both the inside and outside of the flange, which provides adequate strength and leak-tight sealing.

This installation method makes slip-on flanges a cost-effective and easy-to-fit solution, especially for low to moderate pressure piping systems where quick alignment and efficient fabrication are required.

They are generally not preferred for high-pressure or highly critical applications, as the double fillet weld construction provides lower strength compared to weld neck designs. These flanges are better suited for low to moderate pressure systems, where ease of installation and cost efficiency are important. With proper material selection and welding practices, they can still perform reliably in many industrial environments.

Across global industries, they are widely used in:

  • Oil & Gas Industry
  • Petrochemical Industry
  • Chemical Processing Industry
  • Power Generation Industry
  • Water Treatment & Desalination
  • Marine & Shipbuilding Industry
  • Pharmaceutical & Biotech Industry
  • Food, Beverage & Dairy Industry
  • Pulp & Paper Industry
  • Mining & Mineral Processing Industry
  • HVAC, Fire Protection & Utility Systems
  • Cryogenic Applications
  • Aerospace & Defense Industry
  • Heavy Engineering & Industrial Equipment
  • Renewable Energy Industry
  • Hydrogen & Gas Processing Industry
  • LNG & Industrial Gas Industry
  • Data Centers & Cooling Infrastructure
  • District Cooling Systems
  • Cement Industry

The inner diameter (ID) is typically manufactured slightly larger than the pipe outer diameter (OD) to allow easy fit-up and alignment during installation. This clearance is usually maintained within a small positive tolerance (commonly around +1.5 mm to +3 mm, depending on size and standard) to ensure smooth slipping without excessive play.

Tolerances are governed by standards such as ASME B16.5 and may vary based on flange size, pressure class, and material, so it is important to confirm exact dimensions as per project specifications.

Yes, they can be used in corrosive environments when the appropriate corrosion-resistant material is selected. Common choices include stainless steel grades such as 304/304L and 316/316L, duplex grades like UNS S31803 / S32205, super duplex grades such as UNS S32750 / S32760, and nickel alloys including Inconel 625, Inconel 825, Hastelloy C276, and Monel 400.

The selection depends on factors such as chemical exposure, temperature, pressure, and chloride content. In highly aggressive environments, using higher alloyed materials along with proper surface finish and gasket compatibility ensures long-term corrosion resistance and reliability.

Global supply is handled by MTA – Metal Tech Alloys Private Limited, an experienced exporter and supplier operating under certified systems including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, and PED (Pressure Equipment Directive).
